The global pandemic is slowly regressing, which might foreshadow brighter days for Duel Commander. We can now hope to play with friends and in tournaments again.
Since the last announcement, no existing card or deck seemed to dominate the format. As it was promised when we changed the frequency of our announcements from three months to two months, we wanted to have more announcements without changes.
We obviously pay special attention to cards that will be released in two weeks with the upcoming Modern Horizons 2 edition. At least one card in the set seems extremely strong, but we want to believe that the community's ingeniosity, boldness, playtesting abilities, talent, teamwork and imagination can manage a very strong but linear deck along the 6 weeks between the release of Modern Horizons 2 and our July announcement.
We have a policy, that we explained here, which states that we do not preemptively ban cards as it is not a good solution, since we do not have the raw communication power of Wizards Of The Coast. This policy prevents us very often from banning cards that are overhyped but are a fair part of the current metagame (as we faced Leovold Emissary of Trest, or such cards).
We also think that an eternal format, doomed to a progressive funnel of solving and stabilization, sometimes needs new and strong cards so as not to calcify.
For all these reasons, we chose to conclude in favor of no changes to the current rules in Duel Commander.
