JANUARY 26, 2026 ANNOUNCEMENT/UPDATE

This announcement is the last one that Duel Commander will publish... At least the way you're used to. 😉

As of March 3, 2026, Duel Commander will move on to a more advanced game system, adapting to the changes and trends in Magic The Gathering™.

As a result:

The Banned And Restricted List of Duel Commander will be banned. Yup, 100% of Magic The Gathering™ Cards will be legal after March 3, 2026.
Card legality will be determined through a relative, fair, gradual and value-based system, each card affecting the legal inclusion of others.
Your Commanders will affect how much you can include.
Some other rules changes will complement those: for playing, for tournaments, and for judging.
We will provide all the necessary documents and tools.
The social networks will be restructured according to the new needs, and the way you interact with Duel Commander will differ.

...Yet, we thought we should still leave you with some insight.

In short: a dynamic system will replace the static, current one, that has become obsolete as time went on. As you know, nothing was as chaotic and perpetually more subject to change than Magic The Gathering™ for almost 33 years. Our game is now reaching over 30,000 cards, 100,000 unique objects printed, totalizing over 520,000 unique prints, peaking with 70 unique releases per year in 2025. And Duel Commander, founded in 2007, was once up to the challenge of proposing a very singular and creative experience for playing, rediscovering, and enjoying Magic The Gathering™.

Yet, as time went on, we worked for years. Eigtheen, now. And it's been a while. As one of the recent new Universes Beyond legend was once told: "With great power comes great responsibility.". So we're back to some idea we started working on long ago, in order to fix our game as much as possible.

The new system will hold as many card rankings as necessary, with multiple conditions, based on numerous complex and interdependent criteria to provide you with the best experience for TCGs.

The rankings and rulings will include many components, most of which have been somehow disregarded or insufficiently considered so far, or unable to address the upheavals of our favorite game —over the last decade at least—, and will aim at fixing those holes in the ship, for the Greater Good. The world we used to know has changed, and, through many aspects: time, attention, accessibility, diversity, planning, and many more. But some of us still have memory, and strongly believe there is a place for everyone in playing, from all times and places, under all conditions.

The system will be crystal clear for players, and allow building decks very easily, like the Color Identity works today! Your Commanders will be at the core of your builds and define what you can play.

The next announcement will be on all our platforms, and will probably have video content, and a livestream to better explain all the changes. This will remain as elusive as this for today, but you will have a lot to discuss in a month!
